The Plough and Fleece, HorningseaThe Fen Ditton Village Tidy Up will take place on Saturday, October 26th. The meeting place and time will be the village sign at 10am. The advice is to wear warm clothes and stout shoes (and gardening gloves, although gloves will be available). Litter and bags will also be provided. Newcomers to the twice yearly village litter picks will be pleasantly surprised at the fun of these events They will join a team of experienced pickers and will be allocated an area of the village. Then, at the end of the morning, following the hard work, Mark and Laurie excellent refreshments will be waiting and also the comfort of Linda garage should the weather be wet. The Parish Clerk, Margaret Starkie will be pleased to hear from anyone able to offer help.A Grand Autumn Table Top Sale took place in Fen Ditton Church (Community) Hall last Saturday morning to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Hall. Many people took the opportunity to snap up a bargain and also to purchase early Christmas presents whilst the children who attended were delighted to find a well stocked toy table. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution stall also had many interesting items on offer. The amount raised overall amounted to and will be used for the many improvements planned for the Hall.Those who attended the October meeting of the Horningsea and Fen Ditton Women Institute meeting in Horningsea Pavilion on October 8th were treated to a most interesting talk, given by Wendy Smith. Wendy is a knowledgeable and amusing speaker and describes herself as self taught knot addict with a flair for the unusual. She has the ability to tie knots into imaginative and original designs without the use of patterns, using natural fibres, including cotton twine, wool, flax, nettle yarn and leather. She explained the history of knotting and pointed out that today knots are still tied by hand as they were centuries ago. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 12th when the subject will be the growing and use of the Opium Poppy in this region. New members and visitors are always welcome.At the October meeting of Fen Ditton Parish Council, the chairman welcomed Sarah Smart who will take over as Parish Clerk at the end of October. During the Open Forum six residents attended to obtain information on the proposed A14 road widening scheme. Additionally, a complaint was made by a resident that the left turn from Horningsea Rd into High Ditch Road is being made very difficult due to the parking of contractors vehicles whilst the development on the old Lion Public House site is taking place. It was agreed that this would be reviewed when work on the site is completed and the houses occupied. Meanwhile the Clerk will ask if police cones could be placed on the corner to increase safety. During the meeting it was reported that speed checks had recently been carried out on Horningsea Road. 31 vehicles were checked resulting in two drivers being issued with a fixed penalty notice for speeding and one given words of advice.In his report to the Councillors, District Councillor Robert Turner gave an update on the planned Wing Development following a meeting with Melissa Reynolds (South Cambs District Council Planning Officer) and Marshall Holdings. It is expected that a planning application will be submitted to South Cambs District Council for the Wing development in November 2013 for consideration in March 2014. Louboutin Shoes The possible relocation of the North Works is not conditional on the Wing Development. He confirmed that the Park and Ride site on Newmarket Road will remain as there is a 20 year lease on the site but that there is a proposal for the car showrooms to move further to the east. Councillor Turner also gave the current estimated traffic at Quy roundabout and along the Newmarket Road as 20,000 vehicles.Recent reported crimes in the area include the breaking of the passenger side window of a car in Dunsmore Close and the theft of a wallet. This occurred between 2.00pm on September 26th and noon on September 27th. Additionally there was a burglary between 6pm on October 1st and 9.30am on October 3rd on the High Street, Fen Ditton. The team won its home match against Shelford Strikers last Sunday by 8 goals to 2. Tomorrow the team will once again be playing at home on the Recreation Ground against Fordham Spartans and will welcome as many supporters as possible.
