Night of the Ski Area

Many are familiar with the incredible offering of glorious terrain and huge annual snowfalls in British Columbia famed Powder Highway region in the Southeastern corner of the Province. But few know about a ski area that is tucked into the Purcell Mountains, Red Bottom Shoes bordering a former mining town bearing the same name, that comes alive at night, Kimberley Alpine Resort.

Night skiing is back in vogue but few ski areas in the interior of British Columbia offer it. The daylodge at the bas Red Bottom Shoes e of Kimberley Alpine Resort churns with life as kids and families, carrying over loaded hockey bags, exchange friendly community chatter and ready themselves for skiing and riding under the star lit night sky. Quickly storing gear in the cubbyholes and under the tables the night patrol storms the slopes.

Riding up the North Star Express quad, a cool breeze carries away the stress of the day and excites your senses. The fresh air is not the only reminder of your youth as you are surrounded by the local pack of snowboarders and skiers who are enjoying music and a jib jam under the flood lights in the Rail Park.

Wal Mart and I seem to be the only ones sharing the same fashion sense as the young skiers and riders are draped with every color of the rainbow and a surreal scene of colors slides on down the groomed slopes of North Star Mountain at Kimberley Alpine Resort.

This place comes alive at night. If you have not done it, you need to and if you have night skied back in your past, it is something you must experience again. Refreshingly alive, I ended my evening, listening to a former miner in the Stemwinder (aptly named after a famous mining claim)explain how the underground comes alive on the night shift.
